Is it steamy in here, or is that just me???

Posted by dcokequeen on December 24, 2008

After much haggling and the utterance of words that cannot be repeated in polite company, my water heater is FINALLY fixed.  After 4 days of no hot water, I took the hottest shower that I could possibly stand.  I swear,  I thought my skin was going to peel off it was so hot, but it was FABULOUS!!!!  I’m so happy!  I had to threaten bodily harm to our office staff, but it finally got fixed.

I have taken 3 showers since last night.  Apply, scrub, rinse, repeat.  Obsess much????  Why, yes I do!!!!

On another note, I got the cutest pedicure today, and I totally wanted to post pictures of my fabulous toes.  They are a cute red sparkly color and I have the greatest snowflake and snowman on my big toes.  But when I turned on my desktop computer, a loud screeching noise came out of the battery backup thing it’s plugged in to, and I don’t know how to fix it without Jeff being here.  So, no pictures until he calls me back and tells me how to fix it.

So what have we learned today???  I will make you swim with the fishies if you take away my hot water for 4 days again, and I have no idea how to operate my own computer.  I’m so glad I’m a college graduate!!!

Hell has frozen over…..or maybe that’s just my shower

Posted by dcokequeen on December 21, 2008

Day 2 with no hot water and I’m getting a little delusional.  I finally broke down and HAD to take a shower.  Since I can’t smell, I can not comment on if I smelled or not.  My guess is that I was not as pleasant as a rose!

When I got up this morning, I decided that if I couldn’t shower at my house, I would outsmart my apartment complex and find a shower elsewhere.  I packed all my shower stuff up in a bag and grabbed my bathing suit and towel.  I was planning on going to the pool area and showering there.  HA!!!  I’ll show them!

I got all bundled up (it was like 40 degrees out!!) (in my pajamas and Ugg boots, no less!)  and headed down to the OUTDOOR shower in our pool area.  Yes, I was so desperate that I was willing to take a shower in my bathing suit outside just to be able to wash my hair that was sticking so grossly to my head.  I got all my stuff together in the shower area and go to turn on the water…….NO WATER!!  Damn!!!  Ok, well I’ll try the other pool area.  I walked back over to my house and grabbed the car (you think I’m going to WALK over there????  I don’t think so!!)

I get all the way over to our apartment office and the main pool area.  Again, I get all ready for my shower, and NO WATER!!!  What the hell!!!!

I got back to my place and decided “How bad could a cold shower really be???”  Well, let me tell you, I thought my lungs were going to cave in because I could not BREATHE it was so cold!!!  I felt like I jumped in an icy cold lake and was stuck in there.

My maintenance people came over yesterday to look at the pilot light, but apparently leaving a note or calling me was too much to ask because I still have no idea what’s wrong with it.  I went into the office today and they had no idea.  I’m telling you, if I don’t get hot water soon, I’m going to be arrested for killing someone, possibly with an icicle that I pull from my shower head!!

A cold shower is better than a golden shower

Posted by dcokequeen on December 20, 2008

So today’s the day I take Jeff to the airport.  I’m pretty bummed about it but I know he’ll have a great time.

We had our little Christmas celebration last night.  He took me out to dinner, and surprised me by taking me to Claim Jumpers.  We had planned on going to Islands because I love their burgers and fries.  As we were driving right by the restaurant, the backseat driver in me couldn’t help but point of the fact that we were missing our turn.  He just smiled a smirky grin at me, and told me to sit back, baby.  He was taking me out!

We spent the whole ride with me trying to guess where we were going (’cause those are the kind of games we play!!!).  I finally guessed it about 2 miles from the restaurant.  Go me!!!!

We had a nice dinner, which of course neither of us could finish.  They give you SO much food!!!  And surprisingly, the people who eat there look like they eat this amount of food on a regular basis.  There’s the motherload sandwich, and the motherload guy sitting 2 tables down.  Go figure!!

Then we came home and exchanged our gifts.  Jeff got me a shower CD player that I’ve been eyeing.  Now I can bee-bop in the shower.  Although, knowing me, I’ll bee-bop my way onto the bathroom floor and be rushed to the emergency room.  Ehhh, that’s what medical insurance is for, right???  :)

I got Jeff a blu-ray movie that we’ve been looking for EVERYWHERE but were never able to find.  It’s because I’m awesome like that that I was able to find it.  Again, go me!!!  I also got him an expansion to the board game we like to play, which we wasn’t expecting at all.  It was so cool to see the look on his face when he opened it.  Although now I can just picture him on his trip, thinking about the game and wanting to come home and play.  HA!!  Serves you right for leaving for Christmas, mister!!!  (Yes, I’m still a little bitter about that, even though he does it every year, and I should be used to it by now.  But I still like to try to make him feel guilty!!  :)   )

So this morning we were getting ready to go to the airport when I decided that I should take a shower.  I knew Jeff was going to shower this morning and get rid of the Wolfman (aka the more than 5 o’clock shadow on his face).  I turned on the water expecting a lovely outpouring of blissfully warm water and what did I receive?  Water that felt like ice coming out of the faucet.  Turns out our water heater pilot light went out and we have no hot water.  Damn!!!  My first reaction was to call my dad and ask him to either a) tell me how to re-light it, or b) beg and plead for him to drive over and light it for me.  Jeff wanted to fix it himself so I held off.

Jeff decided to take a cold shower anyways.  I told him good luck with that, as you will not get me anywhere NEAR a cold shower like that.  Hey, I’m already awake!!  I don’t need a cold shower to wake me up!!

The 2 of us went out to our balcony to check on the water heater.  Let me give you a little word picture so you can better envision the scene……  Jeff, having taken his cold shower, was already dressed.  Me,  I was standing out there in my bathrobe trying to kneel down to see if the pilot light had turned on.  Again, we live on the 3rd floor so my bare ass was hanging out for the whole neighborhood to see.  Lovely, right????  Well, maybe not if you were one of the people who had the misfortune of seeing it!!  Finally I told him that I needed to put some clothes on before our neighbors sent over the police who would arrest me for indecent exposure.

So yes, we are the 2 people who can’t get our pilot light re-lit.  We followed the instructions in the little booklet, and were still not able to get it lit.  Jeff took this as a personal indignation against himself that it wouldn’t light.  Of course it is the water heater’s fault because “it must be broken”.  HAHAH!!!   So now we have to wait for our maintanence crew to come over, light our pilot light, and probably snicker under their breath about the idiots who can’t re-light it.

(Side note…..Jeff just walked in and, seeing what I am doing said “You’re blogging about our water heater????”   “Why yes, honey.  Inquiring minds want to hear about my bare ass hanging out over the balcony.  But don’t worry, I won’t post any pictures of it”)   HAHAHAHAH!!!

It’s the final countdown!

Posted by dcokequeen on December 17, 2008

(Are you singing that 80’s song now????  Oh good!!!)

Well, I’m in the final countdown of my class.  My class ends on Sunday.  These classes go so fast!!  They are 5 1/2 week classes.  Think about everything you learned in a 20 week semester…..yeah, that’s all crammed into 5 1/2 weeks.  It makes it a little crazy!  So I’m super happy to be finishing it up.

It’s also the final countdown to Jeff going to Chicago.  Every year, he goes home to see his family for 2 weeks in July and 2 weeks in December.  It makes it pretty sad for me to be without him during the holidays.  I realized the other day that even though we’ve been together for almost 4 years, we’ve never spent Christmas or New Year’s together.  Sad!!!  :(   I’m hopeful that next year, I’ll be in a better position with work to be able to take the time off and go with him.  The bad thing is that in this field, December thru April seem to be the busiest time of the year.  The last couple weeks have just been crazy at work.

On top of that, my grandma was hospitilized again.  Last November she was hospitalized for a pulminary embolism.  That basically means that she had a blood clot in her lungs and it was making her woozy and she would have these periods where she didn’t know what was going on or where she was.  Pretty scary, especially considering that she is still out and about driving herself around.  My greatest fear was that she would be out driving somewhere and wouldn’t know where she was, or be able to call someone and tell them where she was.  She also had low stamina for walking around and would try to get into the wrong car when she was leaving the mall.  Crazy!

So she went to the doctor last week complaining of migranes.  She gets migranes regularly, but these were similar to the ones she was experiencing last year.  Her doctor sent her to the ER.  They admited her into the hospital, which is where she has been for more than a week.  They ruled out the pulminary embolism this time, but they do think she has bronchitis and possibly had a stroke while in the hospital.  Her right arm was numb and she was having a hard time with co-ordination.  It made things very stressful for me for the last week.  I wasn’t really sure what was going to happen with her.

Thankfully, she was released from the hospital today.  She probably won’t be able to be on her own for a while, so thankfully my mom will be helping to take care of her.

So needless to say, things have been a little crazy with me lately.  I hope that things start to settle down soon.  Hopefully your holidays are a little less hectic than mine are shaping up to be!

Why yes, that is a crockpot on my bed

Posted by dcokequeen on December 10, 2008

I’ve been a little MIA lately.  After my mishap at work, I haven’t been able to check my blog at work.  What the heck???  Give me access to a computer and then chastise my expertise at multi-tasking???  Some people just can’t appreciate a hard worker.

Last weekend, Jeff and I got into the holiday spirit and got a Christmas tree.  This is our first year living together so it was pretty fun to decorate the tree together.  However we ended up getting a bum tree that doesn’t want to drink up any water and the needles are starting to get a little brittle already.  I told Jeff to take a screwdriver to it tonight and stab it in hopes of getting a fresh cut into the inside of the trunk.  Hopefully it will start to take up water soon.  We’re hoping that we haven’t already lost it.

He even tolerated all my Tinkerbell decorations, including my Tinkerbell tree topper.  Her wings even light up and change colors.

I’m a sucker for any Tinkerbell ornaments that I find.  I had a total of 6 on the tree so far.

Then we decided to take our picture together with our first Christmas tree.

Maybe this should be our Christmas photo

After all the Christmas festivities, we were famished and decided to take a break to watch the 24 movie that was on tv a week ago.  I had Tivoed it because we were out on the night it was on.  Since the Tivo is in the bedroom and we had bought a meatball and little smokie crockpot dish to snack on, we decided to just bring the party into the bedroom.

He was quite perturbed that I felt the need to take pictures of him doing everything, so he quickly grabbed the camera from me and took a picture of me.

And yes, we did plug it in to keep our snack warm.  I have a little dipper that we did this with before, but this was just cracking us up, eating from the crockpot in bed.  Hey, we put the table cloth down, so it’s ok, right???  LOL!!!!

I also got pretty sick this last week.  It started with a sore throat and I tried to take it easy to avoid getting sick.  But unfortunately it wasn’t enough.  I got hit, and I got hit hard!  My voice started to give out, and it finally was just down to a raspy whisper.  I called Jeff a few times to leave breathy voicemails on his phone just to give him a little excitement.  Hehehe!!!

I finally went to the doctor and got some antibiotics, and I’m slowly starting to feel better.  My doctor did a strep test on me because that’s what he thinks I have.  I’m still waiting for the results to come back.  But at this point, it probably doesn’t matter if the antibiotics are working.  I never understood that.  Let’s test you and see what you HAD now that you are better.  Makes no sense.

Anyways, I’m starting to feel better which is great.  I wasn’t able to take my niece out to get her Christmas hamster last weekend, so I’m going to have to take her out sometime soon.  I can’t wait to take her to get her own pet!!  :)

You Fembots have nothin’ on me!!

Posted by dcokequeen on December 1, 2008

Do you remember the Fembots that were in the Austin Powers movie?  They were placed in Austin’s room to try to relax him and make him feel comfortable before they tried to kill him by shooting bullets out of their boobs.  Once Austin was feeling quite amorous, little pistols came out of their boobs and they tore up the room with bullets.

Today I would definitely qualify to be a Fembot!

Over the weekend, I did what every red-blooded American with a credit card does after Thanksgiving…..I went shopping for myself!!  Since most of my Christmas shopping is completed (I only have to get my niece a hamster and cage.  Which coincidentally REALLY makes me want to see that new movie “Bolt”.  I had a hamster when I was a kid and just seeing that little hamster in his ball on the big screen saying choice phrases such as “I’ll break his neck!” CRACKS. ME. UP!!!!  What can I say, I’m easily amused!!)  But I digress…

So since most of my Christmas shopping is completed, I decided to go shopping for myself.  I woke up at the crack of 8am on Friday morning (hey, that IS early!!) and lay in bed reading for an hour and a half waiting for Jeff to wake up.  When I remembered that he had said that he had absolutely no desire to go shopping, I quickly got dressed, left a note and ran out the door.

My first stop was to the mall.  No, I’m not suicidally trust me!!  I found a close parking spot very quickly (even though the lot was pretty full) and went inside.  I found some items of clothing that I had been wanting so I headed to a register.  Now, mind you, all the registers that I had already seen were 20+ people deep, so I figured I’d be waiting for a while.  NOT SO!!  I actually found a register with no one in line and checked out very quickly.  Apparently everyone was waiting for me to get in the line because when I turned to leave, the line was already 10 people long.  I figured my luck was going to run out soon so I decided to shop briefly in the mall, and headed home.

I needed to also buy some bras for my breasticles, AKA “over the shoulder boulder holders”.  This is usually a dreaded trip for me because, while there are a plethora of bras in sizes AA-C, stores tend to frown upon carrying sizes that could double as a very large yamika if the need arose.  (Yes, I have!!)  I decided to make a quick trip to Kohl’s on Sunday, and I believe I heard angels singing (perhaps just the piped in Christmas muzak but whatever) as I made my way over to the intimate apparel (intimata ropa for you Spanish speakers.  Yes, it was on the sign!).  I quickly found more bras in my size than I was planning on purchasing.  I almost fell over!!!  I couldn’t believe it!!  I made my selections, tried them on (another FUN activity at the store!  NOT!!) and checked out.  Thankfully, the line was not 2 1/2 hours long like it was on Friday morning, as my step mom informed me.

So today I am wearing one of my new brassieres and I swear, the girls have not been this perky in a LONG time!  Seriously, I think they are going to develop a fear of heights any second.  I’m contemplating using them as a chin rest very soon.  I’ve been very concerned about rounding corners too fast, lest I poke someones eye out.
